Summer 2008
Key looks for Autumn 2008
Heritage fabrics are set to be big fashion news this season, tartan in particular is going to appear in everything from clothes to handbags, tweed, checks, paisley prints and even Pringle style sweaters are going to be hitting the High Street. Lace is also going to be making a comeback, adding a ladylike element to a gothic theme – rather predictably featuring a lot black, but grey is also in abundance. Red is a hot colour this season, whether you choose a bright red party dress or just accessories in a vibrant shade, you will be right on trend. High shine for accessories is going to mean a plethora of patent shoes and bags, particularly books (look out for some lovely ankle boots to take you into the colder months).
If boho is more your thing, there’s a ‘Folk Luxe’ vibe which I’ve heard described as ‘Russian outback’! Think faux fur gilets, fringed leather, ditsy prints, coloured tights and knitwear. If you prefer something a bit more smart, power dressing is making a return, but it’s more refined than the 80’s shoulder-pad revolution, and blouses are making a big return both for casual or work wear.
Jewellery trends this season are turning towards statement pieces, in particularly necklaces or cuff-style/chunky bracelets. Chandelier earrings are also making an appearance, but don’t overdo it by wearing all of these pieces together ..... better to choose one item that really compliments your outfit and leave the rest for another day!
