A few tips to help you select something to flatter your face shape

When choosing jewellery that will help you to make the most of your features, the key factor to take into account is your face shape - this will roughly fall into one of the following four categories:- heart, rectangular/oblong, round or oval (If you are having trouble identifying the shape of your own face, you could try looking at a photo of yourself, asking your friends or look in a mirror and with a lipstick draw round  the  reflection of your face on the glass and see what shape it ends up!)

A heart shaped face means the chin is slightly pointy and the forehead wide (think Jennifer Aniston!) - to balance this face shape, wear jewellery which gives an illusion of width to your jawline.

Necklaces - A chunky necklace with horizontal detail is ideal or a choker necklace works because it softens and diminishes the sharp angle of the chin.

Earrings - Look for styles that are wider at the bottom than the top such as these - triangular-shaped with beads that move at the base.

A rectangular/oblong shaped face has more length than width and it has distinguishable angles. The width of the face at the forehead is the same as the chin. This face needs jewelllery that adds width, camouflages the length of the face and will suit a style which creates curves.

Necklaces - choose bold colours, circular beads or focal pendants. A high choker reduces the length of the face, particularly if the neck is too long. A 16" or 18" necklace that ends in a "U" flatters this face shape but avoid very long necklaces.

Earrings - the softness of round or hoop earrings are great but avoid styles which emphasise length, ie long and dangly!

A round face - this shape is round at the cheeks and has a circular form. There is more of the face near the ears and gradually less curving upward and downward. To make your face look slimmer try the following.

Necklaces - To give a dimension of length, look for long design which helps to lengthen the look of your face and draw the eye downwards which can also have a slimming effect.

Earrings - Squares, oblongs & rectangles work well as do dangling and angular design (but avoid hoop or button style earrings which will make you look even more round).

An oval shaped face can wear any style, most shapes will look great on you, so experiment with different styles, colours & textures.

Necklaces - Any shape necklace or pendant will work with the oval. A choker looks just as good as a longer length or any necklace that comes to a "V."

Earrings - Round shapes, button or hoop earrings look good on the oval face, but triangular shapes are especially flattering. Dangling earrings look good, just make sure they are not too long.

COLOURS - the key is to find something that flatters your skin tone, hair, eye colour etc as well as the clothes you wear.  I recommend treating yourself to a colour analysis by a consultant who can give you invaluable guidance on this aspect, which can really transform your wardrobe and change your shopping habits for the better.  See the Links page for details of ladies who can help you.
